Join Date: Apr 2008 Age: 23 Posts: 1,930 I really like Graham as well, although after his Senior Bowl performance and depending on how well he does in the combine I think he’ll be a top 20 pick, unless teams hold his height and arm length against him. I also would like Weatherspoon as well.

But my ultimate hope/dream scenario would be trading up and drafting Derrick Morgan.

I think any player you pick as a DE needs to have the size/speed combination to play full time. If he can stand up in a 3-4 then that is even better, but I don’t think it’s a priority. If you end up with a light in the pants guy who can only rush the passer and stand up in a 3-4 then you end up with a guy who will only play 1/3 of the downs, and that’s assuming we run more 3-4. Look at Orakpo in Washington. 11 sacks playing from SAM.

Those ‘tweeners’ like Sapp for example is the exact same size as Fujita, height and weight. Hughes is 6′3” 257 lbs. I don’t think they have the strength or size to be every down DE’s but as a SAM they are perfect fits.

Weatherspoon would be better but if the FO values pass rushing one of those guys could overtake him on their value chart.

I agree with what BoNcHiE says about drafting a tweener LB not being an area of “need” and they may only see 1/3 of the reps in our current schemes but at the moment an impact player at that spot for 1/3 plays with Greg Williams’ tutoring could pay dividends. The DT depth in this draft is seems to be deeper than DE’s and Rush backers so it may just depends on who’s sitting there come 32. __________________

I agree with an earlier poster on these four.

DT Dan Williams 6′3 327 and can play. Ideal mix of a 4-3 kid who
is strong enough to be a NT in a 3-4. In today’s defensive
packages that’s great; plchicago blackhawks jerseys, ugg upside tall boots Rchicago blackhawks jerseys, ugg upside tall bootsHING DEFENSE is our BIGGEST NEED.

OLB Sean Weatherspoon 6′2 245 AND the best outside linebacker with measurables not
included; due to position, he might even be around

NT Terrence Cody 6′5 365 I DONT CARE IF HE’S A SITUATIONAL PLAYER ON FIRST
DOWNS ONLY and some seconds. Hargrove and others can play
3rd downs and with cody, it will probably be third and long

OLB Brandon Spikes 6′3 258
Having suffered through having to watch this kid; we know he’s
real; and his infusion of strength, speed and power to our LB’ing
corpse would be huge

DT Dan Williams - could end up having a better career than higher rated DTs

NT Terrence Cody - If he can get his weight down, I see a Kevin Williams/Marcus Stroud kind of player. He would command double teams and free up Ellis to get into the backfield.

OLB Brandon Spikes (this kid is getting moved to the outside if he grades well in coverage)

Maurkice Pouncey (sure, Goodwin made the Pro Bowl, I’m not sure how since I realy don’t see anything special, but this Pouncey kid is the best C in the draft and maybe the last 3 drafts……our run game AND pass blocking would improve. Imagine having Nicks/Pouncey/Evans in the middle of the line……what beastliness that would be.

DT Jared Odrick - speedy, strong, good motor. might be off the board.

If Taylor Mays is somehow there, I’d consider it, the same goes for Dexter McCluster (if we lose Reggie only) A.B.C.- Anybody But Cody. he is Jonathan Sullivan revisited. Only one wanting him to come to N.O. is the Popeyes franchise on Airline Dr.

31 games
2 sacks (Ellis has 6 and he’s only played 23 games! COME ON MAN!!!!)
1 forced fumble
73 tackles (this isnt SO bad)
BTW, QB pressures are nice, but I’ll take sacks out of a guy I picked that high and pay that much, thank you. Pressures don’t mean JACK. Imagine his cap # in exchange for those pedestrian numbers!!!! It’s the C. Grant situation all over again.

These are NOT fantastic numbers, my man, especially not for the 4th overall pick or whatever he was. I agree that he is playing out of position, but I’m not trading ANYTHING nice to KC to get him. Neither is Loomis. Nice try though…………..I’m an LSU fan too, but this guy is not the same guy that played here. To say your comments are a reach would be an understatement…

First off, pressures mean as much as sacks. Sacks say how often you got to the QB and got them down before they got rid of the ball, while pressures say how often you were on top of him. If a QB throws a ball into coverage before you get a sack, you only got a pressure, but your pressure may have forced that throw. Same goes for the QB completing a pass - if your coverage unit isn’t doing their job & someone’s wide open, good luck getting sacks! If you don’t understand the relation, you don’t understand football; there’s a reason football is called ‘the ultimate team sport’.

Secondly, I believe in an earlier post you mentioned ‘health’ - don’t bring up health if you are comparing Dorsey to Sed…I mean, reallyjerome iginla team canada jersey, sidney crosby team canada youth jersey ,discount ugg boots! With the time Sed has missedjerome iginla team canada jersey, sidney crosby team canada youth jersey ,discount ugg boots!

Next, Let’s take a slice of high snap players in the NFL:

Jonathan Babineaux of Atlanta had 870 snaps, 25 pressures, 39 tackles ( ranked #1 overall DT/NT by PFF )
Kevin Williams of Minnesota had 871 snaps, 20 pressures, 17 tackles ( ranked #3 overall DT/NT by PFF )
Jay Ratliff of Dallas had 775 snaps, 15 pressures, 25 tackles ( ranked #15 overall DT/NT by PFF )

Trent Cole of Philly had 959 snaps, 31 pressures, 39 tackles ( ranked #3 overall 4-3 DE by PFF )
Jared Allen had 945 snaps, 35 pressures, 27 taclkes ( ranked #6 overall 4-3 DE by PFF )
Mario Williams had 952 snaps, 29 pressures, 26 taclkes ( ranked #8 overall 4-3 DE by PFF )

Justin Smith had 977 snaps, 44 pressures, 32 tackles ( ranked #1 3-4 DE by PFF )
Cullen Jenkins had 801 snaps, 27 pressures, 20 tackles ( ranked #8 3-4 DE by PFF )
Darnell Dockett had 860 snaps, 22 pressures, 34 tackles ( ranked #27 3-4 DE by PFF )

Are you saying all of those guys are overrated, due to being on the field because of their ‘horrible’ defense, inflating their numbersjerome iginla team canada jersey, sidney crosby team canada youth jersey ,discount ugg boots!
Get real.

Ellis plays mostly in a 4 man front. Dorsey, in a 3 man front, where he is oft the ‘edge’ rusher to his side, on a 3 man rush.
Ellis plays with Smith, McCray / Grant, and Hargrove / Klancy / Remi. Dorsey plays with Jackson and Edwards.

Sed averages 1 tackle every ~19 snaps.
Dorsey averages 1 tackle every ~22 snaps.

Sed is ranked the 48th DT per PFF.
Dorsey is ranked the 31st 3-4 DE per PFF.

Sed has 6 sacks, 28 pressures, 18 tackles in 2 seasons on the Saints D.
Dorsey has 2 sack, 22 pressures, 78 tackles in 2 seasons on KC’s D.

If anything, the two look very much alike, like everyone thought they did. Now take into account that Dorsey is playing out of position on one of the worse teams in the NFL ( particularly on defense ), and Dorsey is definitely doing well - very well. Saying he’s a ‘bust’ or ‘horrible’ or ‘Grant’ or anything like that is just being a hater.

Now I’m not saying their stats and formula’s are full proof, although I find them to be pretty good because they take into account all aspects of a players game, but after one sub-par year as a 4-3 DT and then playing out of position for a year as a 3-4 DE, he may be damaged goods. See the numbers - I think he’d do just fine!

We could sure use a good DT/NT at 32 or maybe even move up to grab Williams in the late 20’s if Greg Williams like’s him enough. Sure gonna be interesting to see how it all unfolds and changes over the next couple of weeks. __________________
